So who's watching the Giro?

I have been. It's the 100 year anniversary and the course planners seem to have made the course more difficult than in years past, especially because of the early mtn stages.

Lance had a couple of tough days the last 2 days. Cavendish looks like he could win this year.

Cav for the overall? no way.
It's a waiting game for the individual time trial next Thursday (Stage 12) then the true contenders will be revealed. DiLuca looks damn good.

It was a very pleasant surprise to learn that I can catch the replay every night. BROADCAST!!! (digital 5.3) I think that the Italians gave the smack down to Versus in choosing to give US the rights for the next few years. It's not as if VS wasn't interested. It was VS vs. US. sorry.

Anyway, it's been great to watch. I hate to dwell on Lance, but I saw him suffering the other day, and a part of me wondered if he's sandbagging. After today, though, he's down by over 4 minutes, so I guess not. Levi and Horner seem to be riding well. The drama! Too bad about Christian too. I need someone new to root for, I guess.

holy moly. I just looked at the standings, and Slipstream has absolutely imploded. Only 2 riders in the top one hundred (Wiggans at 27th and Danielson at 93rd)!! WHA??? That crash of Christian's must have absolutely destroyed the team! As a team they are 21st of 22 teams, ahead of only Bbox Bouygues Telecom. sheesh.

Thanks. Riders were talking about the coverage on Universal at the Monsters of the Midway criterium today. Excellent weather finally, except for the "wind tunnel" on the stretch going west.

Now Mark Cavendish has packed up after his last sensational sprint win and gone home to "recover" for the Tour de France. Things really get interesting now. And Levi Leipheimer is looking strong and in a great position to strike.

Been enjoying watching each stage on USnbc, since my basic cable doesn't get VS's. There was an early crash in the first week that created this significant time lose for most the field. Regardless, it bothers me when these guys drop out early and pack it in. I feel it is as much a team sport as individual effort, but I know traditionally this always goes on. (though don't see Lance heading home yet) Go Levi!!! Anybody know if VandeValde's broken bone would be heeled by TourdeFrance?

I've been watching it on and off this month. Missed the one rider's crash when he fell a few hundred feet down a ravine (the aftermath can be seen on various postings on YouTube, et al.). Saw the highlights Sunday night and Lance schlepping water bottles for Levi. Had to rub my eyes for 5 seconds after seeing that. Haven't seen that in quite a while but it's great to see Lance being a team player to try to help Levi win it.

But I'm with Anne on this one: DeLuca seems to be the one to beat despite trailing as of today.

Menchov looks tough to beat now. But what caught my attention was Armstrong today, he looked great. Considering the setback with the collarbone and the fact he hasn't ridden a major stage race in 3 years, he looked exceptional. He's really ridden himself into shape over the past couple of weeks, he's shed a lot of upper body mass and he's not climbing bad at all. He's missing that top gear, but he's been better than I thought he was going to be. He may have too many things to over come before July, but it sure is interesting to watch.

I finally found the Universal channel on Comcast -- ch 251, also perfectly accessible without cable and a DTV converter box. But I thoroughly enjoyed watching stage 17 coverage last night! :-) Gosh... I wish I'd known about that hidden channel 251 earlier this month.
