Hi

My backup career was always bike messenger but at 53 I may not be able to make a go of that anymore. What's life working in a bike shop like? Do you start out at minimum wage? I know the guys at my LBS seem happy, except when they are extremely busy.

I know that there are a few folks on Chainlink who work in a bike shop, could some of you please tell us about your job?

Thanks
Mark

My job rocks. =)

I work at the Trek Bike Store in Schererville Indiana. I work as the only female tech.

The pay? Not so great, but who's complaining in this economy. Besides, to a large degree, you are dispensable... not trying to be mean, just being honest. Bikes aren't that difficult to get along with, and most people can pull off my job with a little training.

The work environment? Friggin' awesome. My coworkers and I are like family. We joke, we prank... it really is a good time. I'm not saying this would be the case for all places, but I don't know too many angry people who work on bikes. Bikes are just too much fun! =)

By the way, we are still happy when we're busy, we just can't spend as much time with you, showing you how happy we are.

There's hardwork, teamwork, gettin' dirty, and tons of laughs. Can you tell I like my job?
