The Chainlink

I'm sure M.A.R.K. will chime in, but here's what I have:
With the research I've done, I know it's a 1956 model. There's a checkered decal on the seat tube that made me think it was a Corvette, but it says nothing in the center of it. It's a five speed which made me think it was a '61 or '62 Corvette with the 5-speed option, but that would go against the serial number that tells me it's a '56. Missing right hand brake, rear brake assembly, shifter, chain guard, and fenders... could be missing more, but I don't know until I find out what the hell it is! Any ideas?

Based on the frame I would say that the rear wheel and derailleur are not original to it; I would guess at one time it had a coaster brake hub accounting for the lack of rear brake lever.
I was thinking that as well when I was looking for the channels to run my lines through. They aren't there. This tells me that not only was there no rear brake, but it's also a single speed. There are no marks on the handle bar from a hand brake. All I need are a rear wheel, chain guard, and fenders. I don't know if it's shown in the pictures, but the front wheel is severly dished ha.
Schwinn's web site has an awesome restoration forum. Once you register you can ask all the questions ya want to all the old Schwinn geezers that hang there.
It looks like the wheels and the frame/fork are mismatched. The previous posters are probably right about the bike originally being a 1-speed. Is the paint damaged on the left chainstay, where a coaster brake-arm hanger might have been?

To me it looks like a bunch of miscellaneous parts were slapped onto a frame. Only the crank looks like it might be original.
Get the bikes serial number and google Schwinn serial numbers. I think a few web sites have this info for vintage Schwinns.
