Well, apparently the city scrapped their delayed snow removal scheme after bad results:

Hopefully this means less slippery side streets for the rest of the winter. But it still doesn't take much to be bad on a bike: that light dusting we got last week compressed to ice on the side streets, making me do a slip-slide so...

on my way to work this morning (just before 7am) the main roads were cleared well enough, but on my commute home (around 4pm) it seems as if salt trucks had been driving up and down the same stretch of clark and of southport all day. there was so much excess salt on the road that the salt pellets were being thrown into myself and other vehicles left and right. then... i was nearly cut off at southport and irving park by another active salt truck. yes they are salting more, but apparently they are taking it all to one place.
