The Chainlink

Got an idea here. I have a rotating schedule where for four months out of the year I'm off on weekdays. As a result, most of the year I miss out on group rides which are almost always scheduled for weekends. I can take time off for some of them, but most of the rides I'd like to do are short notice kinda things and my schedule is made a month in advance, so if I don't request time a month out, I generally don't get it, unless I have a really good reason, and riding my bike doesn't count.

So, I'm putting a feeler out to see if there are any other folks who would be interested in doing some higher mileage, but slower paced rides in and around the city. I usually don't ride any faster than about 14-16mph average. Mileage-wise I'd be looking at riding anywhere between 30 and 60 miles.

Also, since it's convenient to me, I'd rather the majority of these rides start with a meeting point somewhere along the Lakefront Path, or near the Museum campus as a kind of generally central location that should be fairly easy for most people to get to. So, anyone else off on weekdays who could make a daytime ride on Thursdays? I also see the occasional food stop at a brewpub or similar eating location as possibly being a fixture of such rides. Rides might also have some sort of theme too, such as riding to check out a certain location of historical significance or possibly to check out a neat natural area within, or near the city for example.

I am retired so I would love it but I don't consider 14-16 mph being slow. In that case what is fast? After most rides of between 25 and 50 miles I average 7.5 to 7.7 mph. I was once overtaken by a box turtle. Lisa likes slow rides but I bet I can ride slower. It will come down to who can do a trackstand the longest.

Kiltedcelt;

  I have a similar problem,  I am off on weekend and and the rides I am interested are on weekdays. I am like Douglas,but  I am almost ready to retire and about his speed pedaling. the last couple years I have been aided with 48v DC and it's great  to move quick again. since i am an old fart, I have been trying to ride Chicago cycling club's over 55 rides on Thursday AM, I have yet to make it, and this year I am only able to take off Fridays, besides my weekend, due to massive layoffs at work. Looks like I am going to look into the critical mass rides on Fridays.
