Some one in the "Awesome Cyclists" discussion mentioned wanting to sell their car, but that it wasn't germane to the thread. I have been on the verge of selling mine for a long time. I'd be interested in hearing stories of others who finally took the plunge and sold their car. Any thoughts or advice?

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation accepts car donations. While JDRF doesn't have a cycling focus, it's a worthwhile charity. Of course, I believe that many good charities have mechanisms for accepting car donations.

Update: I haven't used my car in months now. Unfortunately I am getting tired of trying to sell it. I'm thinking of donating it but am wary of middle-man profiteer types. Does anyone have suggestions for a reputable place to donate it? Any organizations that support cycling advocacy? I'm pretty much opposed to 1877 kars for kids based soley on their radio commercials.
One summer about five years ago I made a commitment to myself that I would walk or bike for any transportation that was less than 3 miles from my house. My gas guzzling SUV sat parked behind my house for 2 months and when I actually went to start it, it wouldnt start. I donated it to charity and have never owned since. I had an Igo membership for a couple of years but I havent even had that for at least a year. I found that once I made the decision to make the life style change, I found a way to get things done sans car.
As a reinforcement to keep from driving a car, I borrowed a friend’s car a couple of months ago and got a red-light ticket.
