Seeking Teaching Artist to Create a Pop-up Shop with Youths at Blackstone Bicycle Works

BBW’s Friday Arts Workshop is creating bike-related artist collaborations with youths for a pop-up shop.

Our Lead Teaching Artist will be:

youth-focused

  • co-producing the project with underserved youths of color, primarily ages 8-13

  • facilitating a weekly informal learning environment that grows both incredible products and relationships

  • developing curriculum that investigates both art fundamentals and business skills

  • providing steady guidance and support for youths, volunteers, and guest artists to work together collaboratively

and business-minded

  • collaborating with our staff to create a pop-up shop in a community bike shop

  • utilizing marketing and branding skills to develop products people want to buy

  • being resourceful in realizing the vision, in order to adhere to the budget

  • connecting with South Side communities and artists to enrich the project

Blackstone Bicycle Works is committed to fostering a safe, holistic learning environment that empowers primarily youth of color from Chicago’s Woodlawn neighborhood and greater South Side community. Its collaborative model and staff engage underserved youths in real world experiences such as bicycle repair, small business operation, and teaching roles, in order to break down barriers to future opportunities. Both a youth program and community bike shop, BBW is a program of Experimental Station, a nonprofit incubator of innovative educational and cultural programs, small business enterprises, and community initiatives.
