Hey- I had this bike gifted to me, and I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it or sell it- anybody have any good suggestions where I can find out what a reasonable price is for an SE Draft bicycle?

Carma - not sure exactly. I have an SE Lager and I know Performance Bike had the best store price. IIRC the SE line can also be bought on-line maybe from Bikesdirect.com ?  I bought mine at a LBS so I payed more than the best retail price.  my advice : KEEP IT !

This guy seems to think it is worth $240 to him.

PayBay seems to show that it is worth quite a bit less.  It doesn't seem like people are biting at these presently even for considerably lower prices.

As to whether you should keep it or sell it that depends entirely on you, your riding style/needs, your expectations, how the frame fits you, how much available storage area you have, and if you need the money badly enough.  N + 1 is not a sickness -it is a passion.

Personally, I'd put a 3-speed Sturmey Archer hub on that thing, a set of fenders with a chain guard, and sell it that way if I didn't need it.  I'd give it a real chance to find a place in my stable first.  It looks like a fairly nice bike other than not having any extra gears.  It'd make a great base for a usable commuting/city bike with the addition of an IGH.  But then again I think single-speeds are extremely limited and that this fad is quickly fading.

The only single-speed that I feel is even remotely useful is a coaster-brake type.  IF you are going to give up gears for simplicity one might as well be simplifying the bike by getting rid of the handbrakes too.

This bike would be 178% more useful with 3 speeds.

I have one that I love.

I'd say keep it for riding around town. It's got a steel frame, so a bit heavy, but rides luxuriously.

OTR has it for $270 (that's where I got mine from), you can get one online for $199.

Steel is real.  Plastic and aluminum are for beverage containers.

What are 5-6lbs in the scheme of things?  Not even a gallon of milk.

Those were $99 on Bonktown around black Friday. I had one in my 'cart' and almost pushed the 'complete order' button when a moment of clarity hit me and I said to myself, "why the hell am I doing this? I don't even *need* a SS/FG!"

I wish I would have hit the 'complete order' button.

$100 new would be a dream IMHO.

Put $30 in a planet bike fender set, a plastic chain guard on, and a used 3-speed hub from working bikes for $3-4 d for well under $50 more invested you've got a pretty nice city bike.

That rear wheel looks like 2 cross pattern and I bet if you crossed one more spoke you might have a good chance of fitting the 3-speed hub's larger flange diameter.  If not it's only $16 for spokes.

With fenders and chain guard and gears that would be a sweet bike for $150!

lol- I did that, and couldn't find a bike that looks like the one I have  (I thought the nature of my question would indicate that I'm more of a novice and not well learned in the ways of the bicycle).

but thanks!

but everybody- thank you for your help.  I guess I'll just have to make a good old fashioned pros and cons list :)
