Safe route from Roosevelt/State area to PAWS Chicago (1997 N. Clybourn Ave)?

Hey everyone!

I'm new to biking the streets of Chicago and was wondering if anyone could recommend any safe routes from the south loop (near Roosevelt and State) to PAWS Chicago on 1997 N. Clybourn? I work there and would like to start commuting via bike, but am a little weary about biking in streets.

If anyone could help me out on this, I'd really appreciate it!

A good street to use to avoid Halsted in the west loop is Peoria, two streets west.  You could also take Green (one street west), but Peoria has 4-way stops at the cross streets, Green doesn't.

Take Roosevelt to Jefferson to Van Buren to Peoria, turn right at Lake and left at Green to connect to Milwaukee (tip: the last half-block on Green btwn Grand and Milw is awful; avoid it by taking the alley just west of Green, where the condo garages are).  Then take Milwaukee to Elston to Cortland to Clybourn (or turn right at Grand and left on Halsted to Clybourn, but I don't like the stretch of Halsted btwn Grand and Chicago).

Or make your way to Franklin (take State to any cross street from Harrison north), take that over the river where it turns into Orleans and take that till it ends at Division.  Turn left and you'll be at the south end of Clybourn in a block.

Test out your options on the weekend to see which feels more comfortable to you, but expect higher traffic in the week.
