The Chainlink

I'm rehabing an older Schwinn and it has a lot of rust spots where the paint chipped off. I've cleaned the whole frame and am trying to figure out how to remove the rust without damaging the paint. Any suggestions?

There are dedicated aluminum polishes out there that is likely carried by any hardware store and located right next to the barkeeper's friend. A good buffing wheel on a dremel is likely all that you need to remove the oxidized surface layer. For deeper scratches, I've used needle files and various grades of sand paper up to automotive finish stuff 1500-2000 grit... followed by a polish or a wax.
