Run in with Chicago's Finest!
Tonight my friend Laura and I were sitting on a bench just south of North Avenue beach on the lakefront trail when a van of cops pulled up and asked us to leave. It was around 12:45 AM and they stopped just passed where we were and blurted something unclear at us. We asked what they had said and they backed up and yelled at us to leave. We got up and started to pack up and they kept telling us the park was closed and lingering in front of us. As they lingered they continues to be really rude and Laura said "It's fine, were leaving. You don't have to be rude." The cop responded, "I'll arrest you. I'll arrest you for being in the park after it's closed." He then looked at me and said, "Control your woman." Then they sped off at a dangerous rate.
What the fuck, chainlinkers? I write this as we wait for a sergeant to come and hear our complaint, but anyone have any better suggestions? If you've got anything, here are the logistics.

Three cops in the car, the driver was a larger white man with longish black hair, possibly in a ponytail.

Would you have prefered that they locked you up politely? As rude as they were, they were cutting you a huge break. With all of the incidents that happened there about a month ago I think they showed great restraint by not locking you up, which they had the option to do.

I think it was to show off, happened right in front of the taste. Makes a person to think about it.

Unless you write down the officers' badge number you don't have any way of effectively complaining about a rude officer. If you're in a situation where you feel like you're likely to be arrested if you ask for the number (like being in a park after hours) write down the beat and car number and if you can license. This way you the officers can be pin pointed based on time. Oh yeah write down the time and associate each quote with a detailed description of the officers.
Don't listen to any of these people who excuse the officers behavior because you were technically in a park after hours. They are most likely not criminal or civil rights lawyers nor officers. You have a right to file a complaint against any officer for any reason even if you are guilty of a crime.
But unless you have proper documentation of the incident you're shit out of luck.

You are correct I am not a Civil Rights or Criminal Lawyer nor do I excuse the behaviour of the Officers but get off the high horse, dude and his girls feelings were hurt cause a police officers were rude to him when caught in the park 2 hours after closing. Get out of the Park it's past closing time.
Until they bust out the batons and start beating him up a few bad words, while inappropriate, do not constitute any sort of real complaint. Fak dude, take of your bunny slippers/skirt/ACLU Blankie and man up, thicken you skin and take some responsibility for yourself.

I didn't see that you did write down the car number and plate. This is enough to file and if you feel like your experience with the police was inappropriate I do recommend filing a complaint. Remember that these are public employees and you pay their salary. People like Tim will try and tell you that you're being dramatic, expecting too much or will make some sort of subtle homophobic remark about your man hood - but that just isn't that case. It's your responsibility to be the public eye for the police. If we don't watch and ensure they remain civil things can, have and will slip into a scenario non of us want. We don't live in Communist Russia because we have the RIGHT to question and check authority.
Just remember, that most of the time those people who will tell you to turn the other way when involved in a Police complaint are the very people who at some point in their lives asked to see a manager for poor service at a restaurant.
It's good to talk to a commanding officer but you should and must file a complaint with the Independent Police Review Authority (IPRA) otherwise it'll get lost in the system. Which it will anyway because abusive language is rarely ever dealt with. Still complaining about an officer can help if there is a history of problems with said officer.

TB you need to settle down and pick your battles, it appears that Remy has backed off and realized the pettiness of the complaint. Where is the complaint, some Cops made a smart ass comment to two kids that were in the park after close?

i'm for one am glad that the argument has somewhat turned around from the "i'm so tough cause i can take abuse" from chicago's finest jerks on a power trips. i am a proud supporter of aclu.
