Seriously!

I used to work with a guy who took the south-shore train to work, left a beater bike at the Chicago train station and would leave the lock there at the station so he didn't have to carry the weight. Maybe it's the same thing.

I wouldn't hesitate to lock to that rack, they could always move the lock if needed.

That's obnoxious. No matter how early I get to work, those racks are always full. Luckily, each rack holds two bikes. They really should not have the crossbar in them, however. It makes locking unnecessarily more difficult.

I have always wondered the "proper etiquette" with empty racks with locks on them.  Just like people are with chairs and shoveled parking spots in the winter, I wouldn't want to "take someone's bike spot" and then come to find they locked my bike up with their lock and I couldn't leave.

What's the problem? It's super easy to lock up and not have to deal with the left behind locks, and it appears that there's plenty of other spots there. I thought riding a bike was supposed to make people LESS grumpy.
