The Chainlink

I've been thinking about just going out with a can of paint and repainting some bike lanes. Sure, it'd take a long time but maybe we get a two, tree people together we can do a block in no time. Maybe some funky colors too.

I'd love to be an active participant in reinserting some constructive notice into the roadways for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists alike.

Or am I just crazy?

Please start with the block of Kenmore where the bike path turns on to it from Ardmore/Sheridan.
I'm not sure it'd be criminal damage but maybe criminal defacement of property (ILCS 720...??!?!). Any legal eagles in here?

Would it be defacement?

It'd be like repairing a pothole...
Lots of street painting experience here.
A couple things:
1) Absolutely illegal. Kind of bizarre to announce it publicly if you're serious about it.
2) How would you get the stripes crisp- masking tape? Anything but a striping machine is going to look like hell
3) I assume "I got a can of paint" means exterior latex? It'll be worn away in 2 to 7 days depending on where in the lane it is. You'll need paint that's made for that application. And, how will you keep cars from decimating it while it's wet?
If you want to paint a parking space in your private parking lot you can get all the supplies including a striper and the special paint at Grainger.
If you do it get on of those reflective vests and maybe a helmet. Then at least you might look like you're supposed to be doing it.
I say do it baut be carefull
