From the talk thread below the referenced story (just in case a peloton of fixies was now aiming to run over Christopher Reeve for therapeutic purposes):

"Van about an hour ago

I'm a physician (an MD) specializing in rehabilitation and spinal cord injury and unfortunately with this story I'm highly skeptical.  Permanent complete spinal cord injuries do not reverse themselves with new trauma or a jolt to the spine.  It just doesn't work that way.  This story would actually place doubts about the initial diagnosis.  Was it a true neurologic injury?  Was there some psychosocial overlay with her paralysis?  Or was she consciously malingering?  These are all possibilities.  I hate to throw water on this "inspiring" story."
