RAGBRAI planning meeting
A few of us that did the Hilly Hundred this year committed to ride
RAGBRAI in 2010.
It's early...but certain things can be discussed this early out and we can see
who all from here is interested.
I am willing to host a session at my place (Humboldt Park); and a co-worker
Mark who has done RAGBRAI over 20 times has agreed to stop by as well
and give some tips and advice if we need it.
For those that may be interested but are unaware - there are several ways
to participate. You can register and have the event transport your
stuff (tent, clothes, etc.) from town to town; or you can totally do your
own thing (rent a truck / van / RV, etc. and recruit drivers, cooks,
masseuses (just kidding on that one) and be self sufficient.
Registering as a team is also an option (and has benefits).
We can have an initial meeting just to get started and see how
many from here may want to coordinate and do it as a small group.
QUESTION : Is a weeknight OK to meet ???
(I know several folks here travel all week for work).
Reply back to this thread and next week I will set up a date and time
that hopefully works for all.

done RAGBRAI a number of times, can't recommend it enough. if you do the ride look up our team, The Whiskey Hookers, you'll have trouble piecing it all together the next day, but it'll be fun.

You might also want to join / post this on the RAGBRAI group in Chainlink.
I do RAGBRAI fairly regularly. While I ride with a "team" (aka, a bunch of old geezers that like to drink beer and ride bikes), I'd also be willing to stop by and chat up RAGBRAI and the issues you raise in your post. Weeknights generally work.

You only think you are kidding on the massage therapist. There are a number of teams whose driver is a massagetherapist. He/She drives the bus from place to place and fills the spare time with taking on massage clients.
We did Ragbrai in 2008 and used a charter service called OutOfStaters (I believe). You pay some extra (about $125), but they have their own truck to carry your luggage and their own assigned campground, often a little more quiet than the general campground. It just makes it more convenient than the RAGBRAI provided truck where there are lines to drop of your luggage in the morning (or so I heard).
