Recently, the Forest Preserve District of Cook County shut down the Centennial Trail in Willow Springs because of Asian Carp panic. I realize I am one of very few Chainlinkers who ever rode there, but this was by far my favorite place to ride. Newly paved road trails; prairie to forest to riverside to wetlands route; few if any other riders, let alone pedestrians; no cars but for one mile of road on a 25 mile ride. Spoiled like a baby. Since the closings, I am joining many of you on the LFT, which I also often rode anyway, but in comparison it is much like a very bad video game ("Multi-Use Trail! Score Points By Avoiding Collisions With Tourists, Stroller-Moms, Skateboarders, Dog-Walkers and Runners! On Your Left!") I know about the North Branch Trail, but I'm a South-Sider, and it would take a while to get the bike there by CTA. Any other recommendations for road biking in a relatively natural and peaceful setting would be much appreciated.
