Also work is underway on the Cemetery Curve on the Evanston side...

And about effin' time, too!

From the alderman:

Sheridan Road Resurfacing Begins
Dear Neighbor,

I am pleased to report that work has begun on a complete resurfacing of Sheridan Road from the Evanston border south to Devon Avenue. The work will also include repairs to curbs and gutters and sewer and water mains where needed.

I first announced this project last April.

The project is estimated to cost $1.4 million and will be paid primarily by funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (the federal stimulus plan). A portion of the cost will be covered by a statewide capital program recently signed into law by Governor Pat Quinn.

The project will be fully completed by the end of the construction season in November. While construction is underway, Sheridan Road will be cut to one lane in either direction, except during the morning rush hour when two southbound lanes will be open and the evening rush hour when two northbound lanes will be open.

In the interim, you may want to consider using either Clark Street or Ridge Boulevard as an alternate route. I know this will cause some major commuting headaches, but I'm sure you will agree with me that having a smooth and newly resurfaced Sheridan Road will be worth the temporary inconvenience.

If you have any questions, please call my Ward Service Office at 773-338-5796.

Sincerely,

Joe Moore
Alderman, 49th Ward

yes, but does this include the sidewalk on the east side where everyone walks/rides?
it would be nice if they could add a new sidewalk right next to the cemetery, on the west side. Sometimes the east walk gets crowded - - maybe they can widen that one too ??? [fingers crossed]
i believe that the west side is private property of Calvary Cemetery, so there probably won't be a sidewalk there any time soon...

Actually i avoid the sidewalk there like the plague, too narrow, too crowded, and nowhere to go if one needs to take evasive measures. i take my chances with the traffic.

Years ago, the curve was one of the streets Evanston banned to bikes, the others included Ridge below Golf, Chicago ave., Main St., and Sheridan along the Northwestern Campus. i'm glad they rethought that in later years, although Ridge's ban makes sense...
