A new ped/cyclist/horsey bridge over the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern railway is now open.

The bridge, located roughly at mile marker 8.25 on the Illinois Prairie Path's Elgin Branch, has a 8' wide concrete deck and a tall (8'+) truss for the safety of horse riders.

More importantly, this means you can now make it past the railroad without the threat of getting run over by a freight train.

Work continues on Volunteer Bridge at milepost 0, and the path is still closed at Dunham Road for the Stearns Road Bridge megaproject in South Elgin.

I was on this path last week and was bummed out to find the path closed at Dunham Road.
Was looking forward to riding to S. Elgin along the fox river and then down to St. Charles/Geneva.
