Bicyclists soon should experience a smoother ride on three downtown streets.

Randolph Street is in line for a new protected bike lane, while sections of the two-way Dearborn Street bike lane downtown and the city's first protected bike lane on Kinzie Street will get repaved after the Department of Water Management and private utility companies complete various projects in the fall.

Randolph will be resurfaced and a new westbound protected bike lane will be installed from Michigan Avenue west to Clinton Street, said Mike Claffey, transportation department spokesman. A row of parked cars and plastic bollards will protect most stretches of the bike lane, he said.
