This is pretty good video instruction: Part 1, Part 2. If you can avoid it don't use the tire lever to put the tire back on.

I am near Wells and Division.  Got the tube in but now I am having trouble with my air pump.  I am messing with an adapter.  And I need a manicure, lol.

I've never liked presta valves.  Too fragile.

wish i could go out for a ride - can't bend my knee to much now-a-days not sure why it hurts so bad.

They sure are too fragile!  Is this something I can change out do you know?  Is there some other sort of valve?

Michelle, if you use an adapter, you will never bust off the valve head, they are $2 or so at your local bike shop.

Thanks John W.  I did get it changed and all is ok for now.  I do have one adapter but still have problems hooking my air pump up.  I am going to stop by tomorrow to the bike shop I purchased the pump from and figure out just what I am doing wrong.

Valves can't really be changed out.  Schrader valves can't be used on wheels with hole meant for thin presta valves.  Just get presta valve adapters, like someone else mentioned, and you won't have a problem.  I wish I knew...I was riding to REI around that time.  Coulda rolled by and helped you out.  Hope all is ok now.

Presta valve are not to fragile, you are to ham fisted; it's not plumbing, have a little restraint...

 

Seriously, learn how to use your pump and pull straight up on it and you will not have any issues.  I have never torn out a presta valve.

 

If it is a real problem for you take the presta nut and put it on the inside of the rim instead of the outside to prevent you from pulling the valve out.

I had a presta valve rip out once, but the tube was also over a year old, and the air pump was kind of cheap and jank.  DUG is right though, if you pull straight up on it and maybe even twist the chock, or whatever it's called, very gently clockwise and counterclock if it's a crummy pump.  It should come off no problem!

you can also spit a little in the pump head if you're having problems making a air-tight connection.
