For those of you looking for something fun to do this Saturday, the annual Monsters of the Midway Criterium runs from 730am-5pm in Hyde Park. As always, it will feature over 250 local racers battling it out over thirteen separate races!

The crit takes place on the picturesque and historic Midway Plaisance just south of the University of Chicago in Hyde Park. Come make a day of it! It's free all day long.

There probably is no better and easier novice crit course in all of Chicagoland. The Citizens race still has space and the Midway is super wide, so if you don't feel safe in the corners you can just back off and go wide. There will be a huge range of speeds in that race, so I am sure that you will find a group to ride/race with if you get dropped from the first pack. It's a ton of fun. We have a great announcer, music, and tons of spectators!

I only heard about it yesterday, kind of tempted to get a 1-day and jump in. I have never done a crit, only classics / distance races (and that was 10 years ago). Would this be a good first crit to do? I am familiar with riding in groups, bumping elbows and drafting but like I said, its been a long time since I've raced at all.
