Who is up for a ride to the Brookfield Zoo? Approx 15 miles each way. Route to be decided, tho Ogden seems most direct (suggestions welcome) Come back through Oak Park, maybe stop at Garfield Conservatory. How does Sunday the 21st sound?

I think that sounds like a grand ole time!!!!!! If I'm not packing... I'm totally game!
so what time do we plan on takin off out of curiosity?
Sadly, the zoo does not offer any discounts. Maybe someone got access to coupons?? Admission is 12 beans otherwise. Yeah...i hate spending money too.

It looks like the route planning angels helped us out greatly. Thanks Heather, H3, and especially Willow and Joseph. I feel confident we will make it there. I guess we should bring some extra patched/innertubes tho. The roads down there are apparently riddled with all kinds of tire/wheel/innertube eating monsters.

i was figuring for an 11am departure time, but i think we can agree to something that works for everyone. a meeting place that works for everyone should be decided upon as well. i think Buckingham Fountain may be out of the way for everyone on this ride.
Packing heat?? Southside aint that bad, now.

I think whether you need to be packing will depend on the exact route chosen . . .
live in Elmhurst near Greenway, so ride it and nearby streets often - our EBC Monday night ride went right by the zoo on the south last night

imo, best approach for zoo is Augusta and as suggested, then come west on Forest out of Riverside to cross 1st Ave. to the south entrance to the zoo, this avoids aggros on 31st, 1st and especially at the 31st/1st intersection

sort of disappointing that the zoo's bike racks are at the back (south) end of their huge south parking lot, but hey, at least there are bike racks

won't be able to join the fun this time as leading my EBC Burnham / Hegewisch / Taylor ride that day - we'll be returning on Greenway through there toward the end of it and look for all y'all at the zoo
That sounds awesome. I would love to go, but working on Sunday.
11 am or later is cool with me...seeing as how, as you pointed out- marauders is the night before! Somewhere with bloody mary's would be a good meet spot no?

if the group were to take the route west from the conservatory i'd say stay on lake st. to oak park ave. i take that route daily to and from work and on a sunday i'd venture to say its as empty as my morning ride. i drive on 1st ave. for work quite a bit and cringe whenever i see a cyclist on that death trap. avoid it. so, that said, where y'all meeting? star lounge on chicago and campbell has great coffee....
Or we can make our own again!!
Just a reminder that we have a fun ride to ride to the Brookfield Zoo tomorrow, and would love anyone and everone to join. We meet 11am at Tumans Tavern. Hope to see y'all.
Planning on it!
