The Chainlink

Bikes N’ Roses is currently looking for Youth Coordinators/Mechanics to fill part time positions at a BNR youth location in West Chicago. Bikes N’ Roses is a youth-led non-profit bicycle collaborative that addresses resource inequity facing low-income youth by creating leadership opportunities and jobs for young people, increasing access to healthy, clean and affordable transit, and promoting violence prevention by establishing positive opportunities for youth in areas where crime is high and programs for teens are scarce.

A youth Coordinator/Mechanic at Bikes N’ Roses is an individual whose passions coincide with the mission of the program.

Effective Skills:

  • A passion for all cycling related activities

  • Experience in bike repair

  • Comfort (if not experience) in interacting with youth volunteers of all ages and

backgrounds. Ultimately, our program’s success is measured in the development of the involved youth, not the amount of bikes fixed

  •                                               Job Responsibilities:

  • Work to engage and retain Chicago West Side youth between the ages of 15-20.

  • Use a preexisting mechanical curriculum to lead classes and workshops for youth.

  • Maintain a positive work program to keep youth interested and with a continuous sense of purpose.

  • Work to develop relationships with partnering organizations for youth field trips and

    offsite work days.

  • Keep the shop safe, clean, and welcoming to all youth.
