I thought an informational thread would be good, since the 'Speed Trap' is largely focused on one incident.

When: Friday, August 28, 2009
Where: Southeast corner of Taylor and Halsted
What: 3 Bike Ambassadors in red, 2 uniformed cops

Going up Halsted last night, I encountered the above at Taylor and Halsted. Got complimented for my light by one of the ambassadors while waiting for the traffic light to change and this whole spiel about how they're "safe cyclists" too. I noticed the two officers standing a few feet away.

I saw quite a few cyclists receiving tickets while I was trying to catch up to the mass - along Canal west of downtown, Halsted, Taylor and various intersections around UIC. At least 10, and that was only as I was passing by over a stretch of a few miles.
Halsted has been tagged as a "high enforcement" street for a couple of years now, especially in the more gentrified areas... too many beery eyed yuppies were getting run down, i bet... ;-)

Looks like they're getting more serious out there lately. Glad it's not on any of my regular routes.
how many "safe cyclists" are required to change a light bulb?
Ummm....none, because their lights are always working?

Anyway, let's try to keep to the spirit of the thread - letting people know where these operations are taking place.
