The Chainlink

Hello all,

My name is Thomas And I am a recent graduate of NIU

Just wanted to share something with your guys that I have been working on for about a year now.

The Repair Rebel is a light weight consolidated bike tool with 24 features. Made from titanium, it will resist corrosion and wear. What I think is the most unique feature of the Repair Rebel is that it has no folding parts, and no extensions that you have to worry about losing. I know bike trouble is as common as pot holes in the city, so this tool can save time, and money. Please check it out, and I look forward to Critical Mass on Friday!

looks pretty sweet to me.

NIU Engineering in the house!

I would make the center a hex wrench that could be used for removing wheels. For those of us without quick releases.

Are there any coatings on the tool to protect the titanium?  I know that titanium has pretty crappy abrasion resistance and galling properties so I'd be a little worried about it up against saddle rails and rubbing around while riding.

1. Always cool when people join up for no reason beyond self promotion.  You could at least pretend to participate before pimping yourself...

2. How do you expect a tool that small to get sufficient leverage on a 15mm axle nut?  Why have you included sizes of wrench and allen tools that are not common to bike but omitted ones that are?  Isn't it large enough to be cumbersome to use as a spoke wrench?

Didn't we just run Madeline off for pretending to participate before pimping herself?

"Pimping" or informing. Looks like a local company making a bike related product, just letting cyclist know about his product. Amazed how people are addicted to cheap ass foreign stuff. It is also a MULTI tool. It will never be as perfect as the proper tool made for a certain task.

He is not informing, he is asking for money in the only post he has ever made here...

It certainly looks elegant but I question its functionality.  It seems that there would be clearance issues on many of the bolts found on a bicycle.  For example, I dont think you could tighten a water bottle cage bolt with this wrench.

Cludgy and unnecessary. Adjusting a saddle on a Thomson seat post would be impossible. Adjusting spring tension on my Neo-retros would require the removal of the wheel (which seems to defeat the purpose). Using the spoke wrench, by the way it appears, would require a gazillion tiny little turns, which would ultimately drive me insane.

Maybe this will work for someone....just not me.

People who do not work on bikes should not design bike tools....

Thank you for the feedback everyone. Yes this multitool can not do everything, as I suspect that no tool can really do everything. What I am offering is a tool that can be attached under your bike seat as opposed to carrying it around with you in your jersey pocket or elsewhere. The prototype design that is in the picture and video is not the same as the production design. Firstly, the hex heads, phillips screwdriver, flat head, and t25 torx head have been extruded twice as far for better strip resistant action. 2nd: the spoke keys in the prototype design only offer one angle for turning, I have addressed this issue in the production design by cutting the sides allowing for another angle to turn the spoke nipple. I think that at first glance the tool might seem bigger then it really is, in fact the tool is smaller then a smart phone. I have included a lot more pictures on my kickstarter page. Every bike has different features that the tool might not be designed to work on. I put my best effort to design a tool that can work on as many features as possible. It is a consolidated form of several tools, and yes there are individual tools that can perhaps make these clearances better, but a lot are larger and not something you would want to carry along on a ride. The folding multitools that are on the market are GREAT at making these clearances, but I have not seen to many that include, hex wrenches as well as spoke keys. and are designed to be attached to your bike.

Again thank you everyone for the feedback. I am not trying to simply drop a link and then leave, I value your feedback a lot more then a purchase, and I am making an effort to get involved by coming to the events, ect.
