I went to the meeting last night. I came away highly impressed by CDOT. The presenter (Jana, Janet?) was well prepared. Even though the word itself was never used, I would call this redevelopment a great example of applying Complete Streets guidelines. CDOT clearly put a lot of effort in developing a street scape that is accommodating to all traffic users.
Of course the highlight is moving from a 4-lane road with a shared bike lane to a 2 lane road with a middle turn lane and dedicated bike lane on the stretch between Western and Ashland. This would include pedestrian friendly facilities such as bump outs and refugee islands on intersections without a traffic light.

The audience appeared to be a mix of neighborhood people with bicyclist well represented. Ethan, thanks for putting up the notice.

yes, great meeting. I can't wait to hear about the updated Ravenswood metra station too.

Thanks again Ethan and Active Trans for posting this important meeting. I would say over half the room were cyclists and most of the crowd was excited about making Lawrence Ave significantly more bike and pedestrian friendly.

what did they say about the new station at ravenswood? Just curious cause I live right there and heard they might be moving it North.

A few things were said:
1. the Lawrence Ave bridge will be repplaced (and Lawrence Ave widened to allow for bike lanes). Tentatively scheduled for fall 2010. All bridges between Foster and Montrose are to be replaced starting next fall.
2. The station is moved to the northside of Lawrence Ave. This would allow for 8-car passenger trains on the platform, something that is currently not possible.
3. Discussions are going on to build a parking structure in the Sears parking lot to provide for more commuter parking. (and lower the strain on neighborhood parking).This would include expanded bike parking.

On a side note: we got a letter from Harry Osterman (our state rep) that talked about a new Metra station at Peterson. IT did not set a timeline for that though
