I rode in to work today, and now I'm thinking I might have to bus it half the way home.  I live about 7 miles from my office which really isn't bad, but man it is hot out there.  I was just wondering if I'm the only one considering wussing out.

On day like tomorrow I'd say that you don't need any special clothing and if it rains getting wet will feel good. Pack all your stuff (including a change of clothes) in waterproof bag and you should be fine. On a cooler day I pack rain pants, a jacket and a helmet cover.

So I'm new to riding my bike to work... I need some advice, the weather forecast says there's 50% chances of raining, should I still ride my bike to work? What kind of clothing/gear will I need. Thanks for the help!
Yes - at least for going to work.  I would be a soaking, stinky mess in this weather.

Cycling Raingear.

You could go European High Style

Or you could go cheap

Your choice.

The only thing I think is really useful in the summer rain is a baseball hat or something like that with a brim to keep the rain out of the eyes.  Other than that, I just bring a change of clothes.

This guy in Kansas died; probably from heat stroke. He had water in his pack still.

I made it! Holy carp, that was unreal. Now for the cool down before Critical Lass at 6:00.

Everyone--stay safe and take it easy! Just say "no" if it's too hot for you.

Nope! I rode 20 miles yesterday, and after I leave work I will be over 12 for today. Hot as shit though!

Oh god, no. :)

I look like death warmed boiled over.
I guess we'll see you there later.

According to the WeatherBug, it's now 96°F (110°F heat index). Nice! Lassies, I'm coming to take some pictures :)
water shoes, swimming shorts and regular shirt and a change of clothes works great! ideally you'll have somewhere like a rack on pannier to carry your extra gear. you'll be surprised how water resistant skin actually is!:)

Since I ride all year round, there is no way I can not ride when it is hot out. I am surprised at the amount of people still on the lakefront path.  They are everywhere!

it was a great ride home today, no wind! speeding down the street with 2 broken spokes on the rear tire. Great Times!
There's two important variables here: temperature and humidity.  That attire works for hot and arid climates but I don't think it'd work too well when it's hot and humid out.

Covering up from the sun is the way to go.  Here's proper Sahara Desert garb of the Tuareg.
