or are the roads a little extra rough this Spring?

California, Fullerton, Montose, Ravenswood...were ridden by me this past week and it's bad enough watching traffic, potential doorings but swerving, stopping and just generally not being able to go as fast I need/want.

When do they do the asphalt fill ins?

Every street I ride is riddled with potholes.  Some of them resemble sinkholes and I definitely DO NOT want to get near them with my bike.  I doubt we will get out if we fall in.

For the few snowfalls we had this year, the snowploughs seem to have done a lot more than the usual damage to the tarmac. Add to that the half-assed patch jobs some crews performed, and it's springtime in the city... with all the joys of an obstacle course.

I'm not sure if the freeze-thaw cycle has been particularly enhanced this year, but Ravenswood up by me (Ainslie to Peterson) has been absolutely atrocious with the bad pavement. There's a section in front of my building where the asphalt had completely crumbled, exposing the original brick/cobblestone road. While it's absolutely cool as hell and the history geek inside me loves it, I can see it being a hazard or something to avoid.

Well my carbon emitter found 2, one on Belmont and the other on Montrose just west of California, in front of the former Butternut bread warehouse. I got a bent rim.
