There's a race like that in Mexico called down the hill. The race course actually goes through someone's house at one point.

These videos make me queasy. There's got to be a trick to the bike set up for these guys to get up to speed on the straights, slow to a near stop to make some of the 90 degree turns without just bouncing off along the original vector.
The bikes in the videos are downhill bikes so weight is not a concern. If your bike can weigh 40-45lbs, then you can do things like getting big hydraulic disc brakes and ginormous shocks. Add in larger tires for better grip and stopping power and you get a pretty sweet ride provided you don't have to ride/haul the bike up the hill yourself.
I think Dubi posted the Extreme Downhill one some time back(along with a map of the course). I was actually searching it out a few weeks ago but could not find it..
a world cup class downhill race bike is a pretty amazing machine. generally they weigh between 35-40 pounds and will have very slack angles and a very low bottom bracket for stability and maneuverability. the suspension geometry, shock technology and lower weight of the latest generation bikes means that they pedal WAY better than you think they would. on top of that, the athletes at the world cup level are beyond exceptionally talented.
here's some fun downhilling at winter park resort in colorado. i've made the trip two years in a row.
