Improving side visibility with bike-mounted lighting

I want bike-mounted lights that will improve my side visibility. I've done quite a bit of research and there doesn't seem to be much out there. I like Trek's Beacon Bar End Lights but they are elusive locally and Trek wants to charge $8 shipping. Will Knog's work? If so, which ones? Any other ideas? I checked Bikepedia for bar end lights and there's not much there either. If it will help, I have flat bars on a comfort/hybrid bike.

How about mounting it to the head tube (assuming you can find a mount that is large enough to fit around it)?

I bought this light set (http://www.themaskedmerchant.com/p1116/NiteRider_UltraFazer_Bike_Li...), each with a 180 degree field, and I picked it up from Village Cycle Sport. Other than that I have one reflector in my front wheel, and it seems to work for me so far.

I prefer red wide angle in back of the seat post and yellow wide angle in front of the seat post. Battery pack into the seat bag then spiral around the tubes, and tie the end light back into the cord. Says not for out doors, but I did not have any problems. The lights on the down tube gave a satisfactory on-road light glow. Similar multi-color lights at walgreen for $6 last year.

Try simply mounting a Knog light on your fork. It creates a cool effect with your spokes.

It's kind of crude, but compared to MonkeyLectric's $2,000 price tag for the video pro, it's a steal.

Seems like something better is needed... how about electroluminescent rubber for some killer tires?

I will second the thumbs-up for the Nite Ize. I purchased two for my bike, and even though I thought I was already nicely lit up, I can definitely see that cars from the side notice me much better than before. Plus, it's kind of a cool effect for not much money.

I have one of these on each side of my bike. They are super bright with a buch of flash modes and they can be attached easily (no tools required) to ANY tube on your bike. They are made of a soft rubbery material that has held up well for me and seems to be pretty weather resistant.
