i&m canal trail a bit hairy...

just a heads up if you plan on riding the i&m canal trail...it's still messed up between channahon and seneca from the flood a while back. there was some major washouts on that stretch and they filled the areas with what looked to be landscaping rocks. big ones. i was on my single speed and it barley made it. my two friends were on pretty tough MTBs and even they had a hard time - it's really loosely packed. there's also a few bridges out, but the hill people or somebody have built foot bridges. just a heads up you may want to take the road for that stretch...

i heard there was talk of extending the trail all the way into the city. has anyone heard anything about this?

I did the trail two years ago and there were 2 sections closed, one between Morris and Seneca (I think, or it may have been just west of Seneca) and one between Ottawa and Utica. I wonder how many people really stop and detour at those "TRAIL CLOSED" signs, I know I didn't. The big washout past Ottawa did take some work to get past. As far as the trail being extended into the city, which city? Joliet?
