I was cycling Northbound near 1000 N. Wells when a girl passed me really closely and silently on my right, and I yelled to her to give me some warning as she almost pushed me into a parked car while passing between a moving truck and me.

I was not far behind her and I saw the beginnings of a car door opening at about the same time as the girl was cycling by. As I was about to yell "watch out", the door and the bicycle collided and the girl flew in the air over her bike, landing on her arm/chest face down, immediately in front of me.  I took evasive action not to roll over the cyclist or get tripped up by the door or bicycle.  It was so sudden and so awful to actually witness this happening right in front of me. I skidded to a stop and the girl appeared to be in shock, on the ground, crying that something happened to her hand. I yelled for someone to call an ambulance while I fumbled in my pannier for my phone to call 9-1-1 myself as she kept telling me not to call an ambulance. There were tons of people on Wells at this point witnessing this, and I asked if anyone could grab some ice from the nearby bar as her hand began to swell. Someone came with ice, and the girl was still crying not to get the ambulance, although it appeared she really needed one. Finally the fire truck emergency response unit came as other people were consoling the girl. I wasn't sure what to do, and since I was running late myself, I asked if everything would be all right to one of the ladies who brought out the ice and she said she would take care of the girl.

I left the scene, with a big pit in my stomach for being so angry at this girl just moments before, and for wondering if I could have done more for the girl as well as if I could have warned her in time for her to avoid this (I doubt it as it happened so quickly, but I still wonder).

I hope that if  the cyclist ever reads this and needs a witness to this accident, that she contacts me. My heart and best wishes go out to her.
