During the spring some plants that I always photograph did not show up, and now plants that usually shut down are still thriving. But, I will take this mild winter anytime.

I went to Michael's Arts and Crafts and bought a huge bundle of artificial flowers and on the way back near Belmont and Halsted they fell out of my trike basket. A guy honked at me, and when I realized they were gone I headed back. But in those few minutes someone had taken them. I am beside myself with anger over being so stupid as to not tie them down properly enough.

If anyone knows someone who just acquired such a flower bundle, let me know.

Protected bike lanes are protected from plows.  Fortunately, there was almost no traffic on Milwaukee this morning as I rode in the single traffic lane crossing the Kennedy Expressway.  Kinzie was better, but there was a pile of snow on the west side of the bridge.  On Dearborn just south of Kinzie, the lane was covered in a couple of inches of snow onto which salt had been thrown, but without traffic, the salt was doing nothing.

Protected bike lanes help eliminate perceived risk and fear of collisions; reduce the risk of crashing into car doors; and add a level of predictability making streets safer for everyone. Except when they don't.
