I rode today. First time in a long time since the roads I usually take weren't clean enough to (there was lots of ice up until yesterday) and I don't have studded tires. Really glad I did since I was getting some (car) cabin fever!
I noticed a bit more slop in some spots, due to the brief warm-up. It loosened the snow pack on side streets and parking lanes enough to allow for more of it to be dragged into the lanes. And what happened on Washington in the left turn lane at Dearborn? It was fully covered by an inch or more of slop last night. I don't remember it being like that a day earlier. Did they push snow from Daley Plaza into it or something? And I rode Damen north of Irving Park the other night for the first time in a while; it was like it just snowed and they never plowed it. Thick slop, especially around Berteau (which is also still surprisingly bad; I almost wiped out when I mistook the snow in the center of the lane for salt-bleached pavement in the dark. They never plowed it?).
yup, there's a ton of bikes like that around downtown Evanston. Always wonder its vandalism or from the plowing...
Wow, rode my personal bike for the first time in what feels like months. Took me a few blocks to reacquaint myself with the overall responsiveness compared to Divvy. Beautiful day to be out, sunshine and no wind.
100 geese and a friendly dog near Montrose Harbor in a minute. Click here.
I cannot wait to be on my personal bike once all of the winter grime (i.e., salt) is washed away. Don't get me wrong, I'm super appreciative of Divvy and not having to sacrifice yet another personal bike to the salt gods, but they are tanks to ride over a 6-7 mile commute. I Divvied this morning, and the bike was whistling with the headwind --literally, the bike will whistle in sufficient wind. We'll see what the conditions are like this evening, but I'm pretty sure I'll be taking the CTA if the expected 3-6 inches of snow falls.

I took Divvy today for the same reasons. Surprised the werent preamptively salting the roads. Lucky me, rode one that was fresh from a tune up.
