My best investments for winter riding have been " bar mitts "
And
Smart wool socks
And
Waterproof hiking shoes
I second the recommendation for bar mitts. I wear smart wool year round as well. Dump the cotton socks in the winter.

Good ride in today.  The wind makes for some cutting chills, but I still like the ride in!

A very nice morning, but why does the wind in winter seem windier than the wind in summer?

I rode today.

First time bike commuting since Aug. 29 (the crash).

got sick and tired of using the same excuses over and over.

felt great.

I was completely overdressed...but it didn't matter.

1 bike passed me (didn't matter).

passed FOUR busses (the #66) - now that mattered.

did I mention how great it finally felt ?

thanks for reading

Welcome back! Great to hear that your problems were being overdressed and getting passed. :)

Rode again today...kinda stunk due to a 16 hour shift (and I should be asleep right now....LOL), but gonna rock it tomorrow morn (setting out at around 0600). Probably gonna get stuck with another 16 hour shift (damn being salaried ! LOL !). oh well, I can decompress on the ride home.

If you see a big guy with big reflective tape strips sewn on his jacket, wearing a white light on the top of my helmet, red one on the back, wearing goggles.....just give me a wave or a "Hiya !", I will certainly do that to anyone on a bike. It's a little bit of motivation (sunshine, happiness, etc...)

Makes me smile.
