Arg, I've been stalling....but I'm about to leave and start my 16 mile ride. How can I resist the sun? It's just so beautiful.

Wind mostly behind me except for the times it swirled all around and hit me sideways and then in the front.  Not a bad ride, but for me, the ride home promises to be quite miserable.  I hate wind!

I am fine--Spence and Derek, how are the hands?  Are you able to ride?

Switched back to the winter coat for today's ride ... glad I did.

For more bike ride photos from today when my rear derailleur cable froze to give me one unchangeable gear, click here.

fell hard enough to break a few bones in my inner hand, i'm assuming from catching my weight on a single 1" piece of metal on the palm vs distributing the weight over a non mesh surface.  I have a cast on, typing one handed and will be off the bike for at least a month.  I'm really wishing I had asked for painkillers in the ER. It hurts a lot more now that shock wore off.

It was pretty out there, wasn't it, despite the frozen gear?

Ouch. I wish you well.

'Twas gorgeous. There is nothing better than being on a bike with the sun in your face .... at any temperature or wind.

Well, it appears that I've faired  better than Derek. With some Ibprofen and icing, the swelling has gone down substantially, although it's turned a nice tint of blue-ish purple.  I went to my internal medicine doctor yesterday evening as he wanted me to come in before refering me to an orthopedic surgeon and he thought that I got lucky and only had a deep bone bruise on my palm. But if the pain persists for the next 3-4 days, then he's going to refer me to an orthopedic surgeon to get an x-ray. I'm feeling pretty optimistic that it's not broken now, so I wore a wrist splint and rode in today (but avoided dearborn bridge, didn't want to tempt fate).

We were among the many who fell on the icy Dearborn bridge yesterday morning! Sounds like Derek really got the worst of it.

Dang! Sorry to hear it. I've had some scares on the 18th bridge, but knock on wood no fall.
