I need help with a cycling book . . . Anyone good at reading?

I'm an editor for Chicago Review Press, and we are publishing the U.S. edition of a book that just came out from Random House in the U.K. entitled Cyclopedia: It's All About the Bike, written by William Fotheringham. This is a fun bicycling encyclopedia primarily covering two areas: bicycling as a sport and the history and parts of the bicycle. But it has a lot of other interesting entries, including Sex, Drugs, Literature, and Dogs. (Considering this morning's commute, I was sad it doesn't have an entry on Wind.) It's a fun "bathroom" read, not a comprehensive reference.

However, it has a few British biases. I wondered if anyone might be interested in reading it and recommending which entries the author should rewrite for an American audience, whether any entries should be eliminated as being too British, and whether any entries bring up the question--hey, why did he do an entry on THIS and not THAT (THAT being something American). Ideally, you should be well-versed in bicycling history--both the history of the machine and the history of the sport.

I will put my thinking cap on.... I'm sure there are gobs of people here who do.

Good luck with the book!
I could give you a hand with this.
Check with Alan. He's a Brit; a Welshman to be more precise. And he's been biking/living here for eons! He could use some cash for his kultur Kritique ...
Tell me something about yourself, please. Do you know much about bicycle racing, history, etc.? If so, I'll get you a copy of the book next week.
Maybe Dave Glowacz, Mr. Bike? glow at mrbike.com. He wrote Urban Cyclists Tips and Tricks, a great resource for cycling in cities, specifically Chicago.

But being British, Garth, I'm probably not the one to judge the British biases? Alan

Greetings,

I would be glad to take a look at this book and give you feedback. I'm the author of Where to Bike Chicago (please see www.WhereToBikeChicago.com for info about the book and me), which includes a chapter on the history of biking in Chicago. I am also the author of The Chicago "L" (pls see www.TheChicagoL.com). This sounds like a fun project and great book. What is your deadline? Best regards, Greg Borzo
