Jami rode from Chicago, to Boston to Florida last year, she's not posted herself in seattle, but here's her tour blog and the map of her tour.
Practice: Go on some local weekend tours first so you can iron our your routine.
Learn to fix your bike: Know what to do if you get a flat, or break a spoke, shifter, derailleur, cable, etc.
Wear sunblock, a helmet, and bike shorts.
Maybe Adventure Cycling Association can help with part of this route. They might be a good resource to contact about it.
thanx for the links Liz! Jami had quite a trip and trackmytour.com is pretty cool
