A Hub shiner sounds like what you call a black eye you get from getting hit by a bike wheel.

or its a euphemism for a non-bike related activity.

what kind of hub is that?

Is that a coaster brake or a alfine 3 speed hub with the mech inside giving the look of a single speed?

That is a 3-speed Archer Sturmey hub on a '72 Raleigh Sports.
