The Chainlink

Have you noticed the black and yellow "How am I driving" stickers on cabs lately?

The City of Chicago Dept. of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection wants you to report dangerous taxi drivers.

1. Get the driver's taxi number. This appears in several areas on the car and is the same as the license plate number.

2. If you're a passenger in the taxi get the driver's name and info. Otherwise, a visual description of the driver is essential. The taxi color and company name helps too. If you have witnesses you can include their information.

4. Call 311 and wait for an operator. Say you want to file a taxi complaint.

5. Calmly and professionally describe exactly what happened in as much detail as possible. Include the time and location.

6. The Dept. of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection mails you an official form and the details of your complaint.

7. Fill out the form and mail or fax it back.

This can help improve civility and safety for all road users - even other taxis at risk of being hit by reckless drivers. Taxi companies actually benefit too because problem drivers are a liability.
