friends, as some of you know, Kellie and i are losing or home in the name of progress and gentrification.  our home is being demolished to make way for condos.  i ask if anyone has any leads on a place that might have these specifications - bike space, allows abnormally large dogs and ones that look like pitbulls, 3 beds, 2 baths.  we are currently in west town, but are open to other neighborhoods.  our budget is $2000 for now but can increase in october.  any leads would be greatly appreciated.  thanks in advance.

we have scoured craigslist already.  we are canvasing neighborhoods. we are looking at Aug 1.

iggy - my former neighbor (and the founder of the humbold parquito community garden) seth captain

specializes in helping people in your exact situation. he knows most every neighborhood in chicago

inside and out. and he takes clients to the properties via bike (to gain a much better feel for the

neighborhood). he is a really great all around stand up guy. I am going to text you his number.

I will also keep my eyes and ears peeled for you awesome folks and winston too. bummer about

the demolition - boo hoo. WTF. good luck   Dan

thank you, Dan!

Probably not so helpful, but I think I saw like a 4-bedroom house in East Garfield Park renting for like $1600 or something on Craigslist. My only point being, if you had not considered relocating so far west but the idea doesn't sound crazy to you, it might be worth looking into. Good luck!

Totally doesn't sound crazy.  There's recently been a steady stream of people and businesses setting up in EGP (not far from where Critical Mass ended up a month or two ago), particularly over the last 2-3 years.  This neighborhood, which shouldn't be confused with West Garfield Park, isn't half as bad as many people say/think it is.

Of course there were.  Did I suggest otherwise?

There was a time ~5+ years ago when I regularly noticed houses being abandoned/foreclosed upon/listed for sale and then just sitting there as well as businesses shuttering their doors (and not being replaced with something else).  For the past 2-3 years, it has very much appeared to me that this trend has noticeably reversed.

I feel badly if what I thought was a simple observation somehow gave short shrift to the neighborhood or its residents.

Were there no people in East Garfield before these "recent" people started streaming in?
