help/input/attend?: tomorrow's "Bike Winter Basics" presentation

Tomorrow I will be doing a 15-20 minute presentation on Bike Winter basics at the Cultural Center, as part of the Creative Living in the City series hosted by Active Trans and Friends of the Parks. http://www.thechainlink.org/events/learn-how-to-bike-winter-at

It would be great to see other Bike Winter veterans and newbies there. . . and to hear from you during and after the presentation. That way, if there are people who want to learn more about winter biking, there will be other folks on hand to help out.

Also, I would love your input on these questions:

  • What are your favorite area trails/routes to bike on in winter ie that are well-maintained and plowed?
  • What are your tips for route-planning in winter?

Thanks!

Gin

I've got a photo shoot at that time but good luck!

~trails:Milwaukee Ave, Canal St, Washington because it has a cement bridge (not the scary metal ones that get slippery when its wet and icy), Damen, Hubbard,

~route-planning: stick to the main roads unless you've scouted the side streets. A few of my favorite short cuts (a few of the diagonals that run along Milwaukee) are very icy during winter, especially over speed bumps.
Routes: Main streets seem to get attention first. I take Lawrence to Clark and it's usually clear.

Tips: Leave extra time! Take main streets (which is so opposite what I do when it's not snowy/icy).
Wish I could remember who posted it this week so I could properly attribute the source, but this is my soon to be favorite winter route planning resource:

http://www.cityofchicago.org/city/en/depts/streets/provdrs/street/n...

It identifies the 107 miles of the city's "most critical arterial streets" subject to the Winter Overnight Parking Ban. Should be comparatively wider and get first snowplow attention.
