I need to remove my cranks so that
I can measure the length of my bottom bracket
spindle. The inside splines of the crank have been
strip so the nut will not stay on all the way,which means
the crank is no good.

To make matters worse, I have to get a whole new crankset,
because the person that owned the bike before me used
the smallest chainring from a geared bike to attach to the
spider on the crank,which means the BCD is not a standard one
and would be hard to find....impossible to find.....so I'm going
to correct the matter and put a standard crankset on it.

However, I can't get the non-drive side crank of ....I'm thinking
it was seized on....

I really don't want to have to take it in to the shop...are there some tricks I can use to
get it off?

also, I'm using a cotterless crank remover.
If you're lucky, this might work for you:

remove the nut holding the crankarm
spray with penetrating fluid
ride around the block a few times, torquing a much as possible. Be careful, as the crankarm might come off quickly.

Thanx for the follow up.....but I'm just going to
take it up to smart bike parts and see what methods
they use to get it off. ... Yeah I'm waving
the white flag.


The is the second Bike that I had to bring up to standard parts
and patterns.... Freaking hack garage bike builders....dude also
put a cog on the back with no lock ring...he put some locktite
on it...i had to correct that too....no worries it is my fixie winter
beater.

Are you far from evergreen park?
Yeah...I'm in country club hills....

There are couple of bike shops in my area,but
I don't really trust them too well. I just usually
hop on the metra ,and
then get off downtown
and gorilla ride to smart bike parts,boulevard
bikes or nearly new.....Those are the only
guys are trust.

What shops are out that way?

i just had a similar problem on my sugino 75's. Kozy's sold me the wrong crank arm remover and i consequently striped the threading. after purchasing the correct remover, i got it off. Put it back on, and all was ok...till i tried removing it again. No Go. Armitage Bike Shop removed it for me without destroying it for 20 bucks.
At the "F**K THIS!!!" point yet?? If you're buying a new set anyway - grow a set and start cutting -

Hack. Saw. Saw to a depth where you can yank it off without ruining the spindle. Use a file to slowly clear away material after you've cut most of the crank off then take it off when the aluminum is the thickness of kitchen foil.
beat the crap out of it with a hammer, if that does not work, get a hacksaw, try to cut if off. If your still feeling like you can't spend $10-$20 at the shop, spit on another biker or homeless person and throw the bike off a bridge into oncoming traffic (prefer the expressway) and that should do the trick.
Oooooooo, cranks, spindles, splines, nuts, cogs, grinding, torque, stripping, penetrating fluid, $20... I'm getting a tingle.
What inside splines on the crank are you talking about? Nuts go onto threads, not splines.

I went to Chicago Area Bicycle dealers
on 184th and Govoners Road. I've been to
their shop before and they are pretty good,but
I had forgotten all about them.

Anyway, they were able to get it off with a Park Tool
CCP-22 crank puller,so basically my tool sucks. There is no handle
on it,so I have to use an open wrench to grip and turn it,but
it's such a piece of crap that it does not push too well and it strips more than
it pushes.

I purchased the CCP-22 while I was there and now I am a happy little fucker.

Moral to the story?

Don't use shitty tools....
