The Chainlink

Urban planners:   I could use your help with a presentation I will be doing at CMAP's Soles and Spokes Workshop on August 24, 2012: Bikeways: Designing for Bicycle SafetyAdditional late-afternoon American Planning Association/Chicago Metro Section panel discussion  "Bicycle Planning in the Chicago Region"(additional fee applies,  APA CM Credits pending).  See www.ilapa.org/CMS.html

Specifically, I'd like to highlight a few examples of how urban planners have used this site and the community to help with project planning, implementation and/or education.

Here is an example from someone I know is an urban planner:

Example of Suburban Downtown Streets with Bike Lanes

Feel free to post here or email me at julie at the chainlink.org.

Julie, are you directing your question at trained and credentialed urban planners, or just those who portray themselves as such on the Internets? ;)

either?

Sent your request to planners at Center for Neighborhood Technology (CNT).  - Rachel (CNT Energy)

I used Chainlink last fall to help publicize a community bike ride in Lemont.  I was working for the Village of Lemont on their active transportation plan.  John Vande Velde (Olympic cyclist) and Christian Vande Velde (Tour de France competitor and Lemont resident) agreed to be the celebrity draw for a ride designed to promote cycling in Lemont, let folks know what a great place Lemont is to ride, and build momentum and support for the plan.   Using Chainlink was great because it allowed me to reach the bike community outside Lemont.  So in addition to Lemontsters, we had folks from Chicago and a few ‘burbs participate in the ride.  So in this case, I was not using Chainlink to gather opinions or preferences, but rather get word out to a broad regional audience.

Thanks everyone, keep them coming! Feel free to email me, I've gotten responses there as well.

Thanks for all your input so far.  Working on the presentation now.    I'm looking for a discussion that was posted a few months ago about a proposed design for I think Washington street downtown.  I remember a picture with the trees, bikes lanes and buses.  Anyone remember what I'm talking about?  I'd like to use that example.
