The Chainlink

This summer, I along with a team of artists, scientists, and teachers will leave from Rogers Avenue and the Lake (Indian Boundary Line) and ride our bicycles cross-country. We will follow historic paths that were laid out in Chicago and pass through the American frontier to the Pacific Ocean in Seaside, OR in a project titled, "Crossing The Great Divide". This project involves among other things, an international online web dialog component that seeks to transcend divisive borders. Utilizing explorations in art and history, we have involved Uno-Rogers Park Charter High School. Our interest in art and environmental sustainability brought us in contact with Roman-Susan Non Profit Gallery in Rogers Park. We proposed a wall graphic installation to the gallery in order to mark our point of departure and draw attention to Chicago. Currently, the Roman-Susan Gallery is in need of assistance in securing their extension space on Howard Street. Utilizing empty store front windows and making use of temporary pop-up galleries builds stability and safety in the neighborhood. Art is an essential component for helping Howard Street development and lowering crime. Any assistance you might offer for this valuable neighborhood building activity would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Are you asking for money?

No, but thanks for your note. I'm trying to get the city in Rogers Park to give a break to Roman Susan non profit gallery of Rogers Park to help them secure the use of a pop up space. When store fronts are sitting fallow, it looks like a deadzone in the neighborhood and crime goes up. Using these spaces for temporary 'gallery installations' or 'pop-up' galleries beautifies the area and creates a healthy environment. The place looks lively and safe and people visit openings and participate in the community. If we can write to the Alderman in the 50th ward and the Mayor's office to encourage these projects spaces,- that helps these small under the radar enterprises called non-profit galleries! Thanks for any shout out to help!
