I like it.
I knew a guy who had a helmet cam. He was struck by a hit and run driver. The cam was set to loop, so he reviewed the footage and was able to get the plate.
I'm a big fan of this type of technology. You can't argue with video.
Hmmm, cool idea, but I'm looking for something that can help prevent an accident from happening in the first place. Google glasses will soon be in consumer's hands. I'd like to see a helmet that can be hooked up to these glasses, offering 360 degree visibility without the need to turn one's head. The ability to record the images would also be a nice feature.
I might buy one, if there was some way to retrofit it to one of my existing helmets....
Also, I would want it to record from the time I put it on, to the time I take it off (maybe an on/off switch?)
I don't think I would take to kindly to being smacked on the head, just to start it. It wouldn't make me happy. It would make me angry...and, you wouldn't like me when I'm angry.
Great, great idea. The GoPro's are bulky and stick out like sore thumbs, and the Action Cam by Sony and others like it are still just another thing to have to mount...somewhere. For $300, which is about the price of certain GoPro models, I'd seriously consider getting this one day.
It's very likely you'd have to bump up the price another 1 or 2 hundred (maybe more) to do this, but I agree. I guess you can always 'tap' your helmet when you want to start recording?

I'd redesign it to recovered continuously and automatically overwrite old video when full, rather than start recording after an impact. The seconds leading up to a crash could be more helpful in understanding why a crash happened than the period after a crash.
I agree with the need for full-time recording. Close calls and cyclist harassment are even more frequent than car/bike collisions.
