The Chainlink

While listening to to the Waddle and Silvy Show from 9 to 1 pm on 06/07/11 on ESPN radio I got to hear how fun it would be if they intentionally doored cyclists and how sometimes that would just feel great. This went on for about 20 minutes.

Well I didn't think that would be great. And as some may know I'm vocal. ;-) So I tried  tweeting with Silvy @WaddleandSilvy for those that tweet and he said that the best course of action would be to send an e-mail to: waddleandsilvy@espnchicago.com

The Apology we got on 06/08/11 was a joke. Happened 45 minutes into the show and was terrible.

At the bottom of Espn.com there is also a Contact Us that goes to corporate vs the address above that is only read by the show hosts. We need to get on this!

If you wanna hear the comments they have a podcast http://espn.go.com/espnradio/player?rd=1#/podcenter/?callsign=WMVPA... . and it happens about 2 hours 14 minutes into the show if memory serves. Started out with making fun of spandex shorts and then went on to murder.

In light of the fact that ESPN already had Tony Kornheiser voice his opinions on cyclists I doubt they are looking for more trouble so it would be a good time to get the message out. Watch out for us! Dooring Can KILL us! etc...

And Here is a list of sponsors of Waddle and Silvy: They should hear about our  displeasure as well!

Cam, good call James. I concur, make fun of spandex all ya like. I could care less.
Spandex is not gay.  Gay is cool.  Spandex is just stupid ;)

All the cool cyclists are wearing lycra or synthetic blends anyhow.  Spandex is so 90s.

Cool people don't wear plastic.

Cotton, Wool, Silk, Hemp, Bamboo, and other natural fibers.  Rayon is as artificial as i'll go.  No plastic.

E-mail sent.
ok-so who has written an e-mail. figure when i get home i'll shoot another to the waddle and silvy e-mail but i dont have a corporate one.

I started to but I'm confused.  Where are things at now? What should an e-mail at this point say and who should it be to?  Are we sure we're not just feeding these folks and rewarding them for being "controversial" at our expense?  Most of the responses I've seen here play right into the cars vs. bikes wedge, which I think we need to steer clear of.

I would like to see this taken over the the e-mail list-o-sphere to move beyond the small group who may have seen this thread-- I don't do twitter so I can't judge that impact (any benefit of BikeSnob's Tweet?) but when you don't do Twitter it's hard to perceive any impact at all . . .  I'd help but I need at least something resembling a summary.

Personally I'd listen to the Roe Conn show or Roe and Roeper now. 890 am WLS
I got the podcast but is stopped at 2 hours and 43 minutes, of a 5+ hour show.
Well that's interesting at the comments were made at the start of the 3rd hour.

Howard, they joked about dooring. Tom Waddle was saying when cyclists are riding along sometimes he wants to give them "the door prize" etc... Then when they apologized today it was "I'm sorry, But" and they went on to talk about how "95% of the cyclists they see disobey traffic law" and "I'm sorry but I have that thought of giving them the door prize" but then they follow it with "but don't door people".

it was ridiculous, And now apparently the show that it aired on is mysteriously missing the segment where they say the stupid shit, as it happend in the 3rd hour of the show.

O, I never read your thread. No clue what you are talking about. That might explain it. And my thread Would likely be read, even by those that don't like me, cause they know who I am vs I have no idea who you are and that affects what I open in the forum cause there are plenty of people with opinions but few that have opinions that are worth anything. That's my 2 cents. now send an e-mail to ESPN saying not to door you ;-)
