In the far western suburbs, the Gilman Trail runs from Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove, east over the Fox River and on to Hill Avenue near Ogden. The total length of the trail is a little over 11 miles and the western half is very special. It's definitely worth the trip, especially if you're planning on riding this section of the Fox River Trail, which it connects with. If you're looking for a ride to do with kids, there is a little water/history/amusement park called Blackberry Farm that is popular.

The eastern half isn't all that, it runs through Aurora which is not much different from any urban trail, including about a million street crossings and stop signs and doesn't offer much to look at except...city.

You can get to the trail by taking Metra BNSF to Aurora. The Metra station is immediately adjacent to the Fox River Trail, follow that (or Broadway) south about 1/2 mile to the trail. There is plenty of parking at Waubonsee or the Metra station if you are driving.

Thanks for the tip! I ride the Fox River all the time, but never took this little side path!

Took the family on this trail this weekend based on this recommendation. It was great. We parked at Waubonsee Community College and rode to Blackberry Farm and back--about 12 miles, which was a big accomplishment for my seven year old (especially after all the running around he did at Blackberry Farm).

Highly recommended. Thanks!
