The Chainlink

I've seen many white "ghost bikes" chained up around the city and have always wanted to know more about them.  I think it would be cool if the chain link would have a map of where the bikes are located and the story behind each memorial.  We should not forget our fallen soldier.

This is probably the closest thing to what you seek:

This is sort of an "official" page:
http://bikechicago.info/ghostbikes/

But is in desperate need of updating-- currently in limbo awaiting migration to a content management system. One of those things that might be more likely to move forward if another person was willing to help . . .

Mixed feelings about offering a sort of 'complete' story about the bike-- one of the characteristics that make the ghost bikes so powerful is their simplicity and their self-explanatory nature, and in a way there's something fitting and symbolic about being cryptic-- after all the people memorialized are gone and you can never get to know them-- they will always be a mystery to the people who didn't know them, to a smaller or larger extent, and to those who knew them there will always be painfully huge question marks about what sort of future there would have been for them had they not been robbed of a substantial piece of their time on Earth.
Thank you so much for this info. perfect.
