Why are replies closed to that discussion?

Spencer, (and everyone) here is a suggestion: When you ask a question here or on any forum and get an answer from somewhere else, please consider conveying the answer to the rest of us here (or wherever you asked). Otherwise our time is wasted reading a question without an answer, and worse, for the rest of time people will get disappointing search results.

Thanks!

EDIT: ok it looks like whoever starts a discussion can close a discussion. I think this is yet another poorly thought out feature of Ning's exceedingly crappy forum software. Now we have TWO discussions about the Bike Polo Gear Ratio and so far, neither of them include any data about the actual ratio.

I too opened that thread in hopes to learn something only to find an epic FAIL
Haha! Okay fine. I will delete my post and then I will copy and paste from the Fixie Forum. One moment...

great username.

i'd say keep it right around 1:1 or 1:2, somewhere between there. that is, if you have a 30 tooth chainring, stay between 20-30 on the rear too. I guess you're running fixed but you'll come around. dip and dive.

Close to 2:1 is best, I think, because you can still maneuver easily, but can also accelerate decently to "face-offs" or however you'd like to describe scrambling to the ball at the beginning of the game, as well as any other time there's a break away.

Fixed v Free, I'm still debating this one myself. I like the control of fixed, enjoy being able to backpedal to get out of crowds and being less reliant on a hand brake. I like freewheelin because coasting into a shot is awesome, and being able to reposition your feet is pretty crucial sometimes.

I'm currently at 46:16 fixed on 650s, and it's horrible. I'm currently trying to find a cheap used 22-23t cog or anything above 18t for a freewheel to experiment. Just like with anything though, there are personal preferences that sometimes go against even the best advice.

Thanks! I'll go closer to 1:2. I am currently at 1:3 (16:48) and man is it a pain to stop! Time to start obsessively reading Craigslist.

When do the Polo games begin again?
